Denny's Bear Barrel Pub...

Considering the interest that I have on health and fitness, I feel that I should share about this huge stinkin' burger that has just been introduced to the world.

There is a burger joint in Pen. that once had the crown of the place with the biggest burger (a six pounder)...the title was recently taken by another burger joint with a bigger burger. Denny's, to retaliate, now has a fifteen pound burger.

This burger includes:

10 1/2 lbs. of ground beef
25 slices of cheese
1 head of lettuce
3 tomatoes
2 onions
1 1/2 cups of mayo
1 1/2 cups of mustard
1 1/2 cups of ketchup
1 1/2 cups of relish
1 1/2 cups of banana peppers
1 bun

I decided to do a rough estimate of how much fat and calories are in this thing and from my best calculation (granted I had to do just a general search on the items, and I couldnt find how much fat and calories, if any, is in relish) I concluded roughly:

Total fat: 1,408 grams
Total Calories: 18,975

The average person requires 2,000-3,000 calories a day. That means that this burger contains the total daily intake of calories for about six people.

Also, 3,500 calories above what a person requires equals a pound of fat, so theoretically, if one person were to eat this whole burger, they could literally put on about 5 pounds of fat in one sitting.

Stop the madness people!!! There is enough problems with weight and health in the US, why do we need to give people an excuse to try and out eat each other?

Is that true? That's disgusting! Who could eat that? I would be sick. Whatever happened to eating just enough to be full? How can there be advertisements for bigger burgers in this day and age? Yuck.

here is the fox news story about it. (speaking of newsworthy topics ref: previous blog entery).

yeah...its hard to believe. even mcdonalds stopped with the whole supersize thing. i thought the US was starting to focus on eating "healthier".

on a similar note, did you know that they are talking about taxing fast food out in california...something for you to think about before going :).

Just reading those ingredients made me want to puke. Now, I enjoy a burger once in a while, but yicky-poo on that horrible mess.

Funny you should mention taxing fast food....the mayor of Detroit was on the Today show...he wants to do the same thing...

rose,

i didnt know about that happening in Detroit too. i also didnt know it was legal to place a specific tax on something like that. i knew they could tax beer and alcohol and the like...i guess you can tax anything.

erin,

i kind of had that image in my mind too...i looked all over the web to try and find a picture, but to no avail. I did find pictures of the six pound burger that they had previously.

btw (during my search for the pic i clarified this)...there is some awkward wording in the foxnews article ref above (you could read it two dif ways)...the 100 pound college girl ate the six pound burger in one sitting (three hour time limit and received a certificate, a shirt and clogged arteries for her time) not the 15 pounder.

I can't believe you posted about this!!! I am moving from Ohio to New York in several weeks, and we are going to stop for the night in Clearfield. We had picked this spot because it was a little more than half way and large enough of a town to have hotels. Then, my husband saw this burger thing on Fox or on the Drudge site, and so we will be eating there that night!!! Although we will not partake in the 15 pound thing...I'll let you know how it is!! (It won't be 'til the end of June, though...) PS--Hi Rosie!

how funny and ironic...if you can get a picture of one of the fifteen pounders, I would love to put it on here as a reference.
